OUR SAMBA CLASSES

The national dance of Brazil is perhaps one of the most energetic and exhilarating dances! These courses will focus on Samba no Pé, the carnival style variation used by passistas (soloist samba dancers) in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. We break the steps in a clear and methodical way, providing you with a framework to learn this fast synchopated dance, its body movements and flavor. Our Toronto Brazilian Samba program currently has 2 levels:

Samba

Level 1

Beginner level classes that break down the basic samba step, body movement more common in samba, as well as basic footwork combinations such as:

  • Samba no pé: miudinho, passista
  • Balanço
  • "S" single, double, forward, backward, lateral
  • Cruzado
  • Contratempos
  • Trocadilho
  • Rebolado
  • Picadilho
  • Trança

Samba

Level 2

Intermediate level classes that continue working on the technique of the basic step, as well as introduce more intricate footwork such as:

  • Samba no pé: passista, malandreado
  • Trança variations
  • Concepts of improvisation
  • Cruzado
  • Cruzados saltados
  • Escovinhas
  • Picadilhos
  • Puladinhos
